DESCRIPTION:Venue: The Garrison Estate\, previously known as MOD Shoeburyness\, is described by Historic England as “constituting a complete mid – 19th century barracks”.  After the closure of artillery ranges in 1998\, the old garrison land and buildings were sold and converted to housing. During our walk\, we will spy out listed               19th century buildings and distinguish them from additional modern housing!  Lunch will be in the Serendipity Café and Museum at around the mid – point of our walking tour.  The café offers plenty of choice including\, eg omelettes\, sandwiches or toasties\, jacket potatoes\, shepherd’s pie\, lasagne\, and a choice of desserts. As an example\, soup and bread\, shepherd’s pie with mash and veg\, and a drink\, cost about £17. \n Time to meet\, and Meeting point\, for those coming from central Southend: at 10.50 am at Bus stop at back of Marks and Spencers for No. 9 bus going to Shoeburyness East Beach at 10.58. DESCRIPTION:Thursday 3 April Perry Orchard Centre Hartpury Tour and Tea and cake. \nThe outing is to the National Perry Pear Centre at Hartpury on Thursday 3 April at 2.30pm. \nThe orchards in Blackwell’s End Hartpury contain the National Perry Pear collection – at least two examples of most known varieties of perry pear\, whether they will actually have them at\nthis time of year we will have to wait and see. There will also be a collection of Gloucestershire apples\, plums and cherries all planted by Hartpury Heritage Trust since 2006. The orchards\ncover 30 acres but you don’t have to walk round all of them and the Blossom will hopefully be at its best. We will have a talk in the centre\, a short walk round the orchard and finishing with tea and cake. \nThe cost is £10 for members and £12 for non-members. You will need to make your own way to the Centre at Blackwell’s End\, Hartpury about 2 miles north of Gloucester\, where there is plenty of parking.
