Minutes of CSPA Greater Manchester Group Meeting held on 14 June 2023
Present: Linda Martin Chair, Pam Flynn Secretary, Harry Brett Treasurer & Regional Representative, Colin Elderkin, Dorothy France, Robin Turier, Peter Sanger

Minutes of the last meeting: these were received and noted.
Matters arising: Colin Elderkin clarified the issue around taxation of pension lump sum payments.
Sometimes pension funds make mistakes. If an individual receives catch up payments all in one year, it can take them into the 40% tax band. The important principle is that tax should be levied in the year in which the pension was earned. However, individuals have to request this! The process of agreement and correct tax year allocation can take up to 18 months. See gov.uk/ money and tax/EIM75020. It was agreed that this information should be carried in a future Group Newsletter and also notified to The Pensioner Magazine and to the NPC.
Pam Flynn had not been successful in the ballot for an Executive seat reserved for a woman.
National AGM 2023:
- Resolutions to be submitted from the Group – No resolutions were tabled
- Nominations for the Executive committee – the Group AGREED to nominate Linda Ridgers Waite for Chair, and Harry Brett as Regional Representative.
Secretary’s Report: The Secretary tabled Group Circulars 935 and 938. Also copies of the National Pensioners Convention “Campaign” Newsletter.
It was noted that the Group Newsletter prepared in good time for this meeting had not been distributed by Head Office. Harry would raise our concern at the delay, together with a clear request as to the lead-in time to ensure timely distribution.
Membership Secretary – Pete Sanger reported on correspondence dealt with.
Treasurer’s Report: The bank account is healthy with £1997 credit.
The 200 Club draw was undertaken for June, July and August. Treasurer has the details, and these will be published in the relevant quarterly Group Newsletter to all members.
Regional Report: Harry Brett reported on his recent activity. He indicated that he needed to stand down from representing the Group at North West Pensioners Association. Peter Sanger would become the representative.
Harry also reported that Sally Tsoukaris had been appointed as General Secretary CSPA, starting in August.
There would be a regional meeting, with David Luxton in attendance, to be held at Central Hall on 12 July at 11.00am.

Date of next meeting: 20 September 2023. This will be a mandating meeting if the agenda for the National AGM has been published.
