Liverpool & District Group Newsletter – November 23

Hello folks,

Welcome to any new members and I hope you will enjoy this and future newsletters. You are welcome to attend any of our meetings.

We have been going through a weak patch recently with few members coming to meetings and a few of our Committee Members have resigned.

However, we hope to make a new start with a Christmas Lunch. Details are in our Future Events section. I and the few remaining committee members hope you will attend.

Sue Munro,   editor

Recent Events

Mon 27th February 2023 – Early Spring Lunch @ Crown

This was held at 12 noon at the Crown Hotel.

Most attendees chose the 2 course lunch with a drink for £10, very reasonable. It was a marvellous get together, with new faces as well. The food was enjoyable as was the day. Appreciated by all.

Mon 20th March 2023 – Our Local AGM @ Liverpool Central Library

It was held in Meeting Room 2 on the 4th Floor @ 11am.

The main topics that arose where :-

  • Future meeting should always include a section on CSPA motions and actions.
  • Meetings to be bi-monthly (on the 2nd Tuesday) except for 4th April and 6th June 2023 which have already been agreed and will be held in St Georges Tea Room.
  • We must find a better location in Liverpool for meetings.
  • Possible ‘Annual Subs’ at £5 to cover the cost of hiring a room, with any excess going to subsidise a Christmas/ New Year Lunch.
  • As we are only allowed 4 Newsletters per year, I will see if I can obtain a list of members email addresses to issue ‘extra updates’ by attaching to email.
  • Our group as able to choose a lady for the CSPA Committee. So we looked at the option and had a vote. We chose Roisin Lilley. Whether she will win, we will find out later.

Half way through the AGM we paused for with tea/coffee and a buffet lunch.

Tues 27th June 2023 – Meeting

Unfortunately only 5 attended :- Pauline, Ann, Edith, Gil and Sue.

We completed the ‘Motion’ sheet and Gill sent it to CSPA HQ for the National AGM.

It was also agreed to draft a newsletter in the hope that more people would attend the future meetings.

7th August 2023 – Meeting

This was also only attended by 6 members :- Harry, Ann, Mike Lawler, Mike Stanz, and Gil.

Very little was discussed – more or less a drink and a chat.

2nd October 2023 – Meeting

Again, just attend by Harry, Ann, and Gill. Just general talk again.

Future Events

A Voice for Liverpool

Like many organisations in the UK, the pandemic wreaked havoc with meetings. Liverpool Group was no exception. Small get-togethers have been the order of the day with thanks specially to Sue and Gil who have kept a spark alive during these times.

While unfortunately, the Liverpool group will not have a delegate at this year’s AGM, it is recognised that Liverpool should always have a voice in national debates for the CSPA as per its long-standing tradition.

It is now vital to re-establish the Group and ensure that Liverpool has a say especially in the run-up to the general election.

Christmas Lunch

The venue is our traditional meeting place in the Crown Hotel in Lime Street on

Monday 4th December 2023 at 12 noon.

Members are therefore invited to join the revival at a Festive Buffet. This will take the form of a short meeting before the usual festivities with ‘ festive buffet’.

A non-refundable deposit of £5pp will be required. Total Cost is £14:95pp.

So could you please indicate your intention to attend the Christmas Buffet by clicking here and completing the form.

Thank you

The Plan for 2024 is to meet quarterly on the first Monday of March (AGM), June (Conference motions),September (Mandating) and the December Christmas Lunch.

All members are cordially invited and to consider offering themselves to form an ad hoc committee for 2024.
